Guy Lombardo

Gaetano Alberto "Guy" Lombardo was a Canadian-American bandleader and violinist, born on June 19, 1902, in London, Ontario, Canada. He became internationally known as "Mr. New Year's Eve" due to his band's decades-long association with New Year's Eve radio and television broadcasts. His band, Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians, became synonymous with a smooth, sweet sound and precise, clocklike timing, and they enjoyed immense popularity during the big band era.

Lombardo formed his first musical ensemble with his brothers in 1917, but it wasn't until the 1920s that they rose to fame. The Royal Canadians' signature tune, "Auld Lang Syne," has been the first song many North American listeners heard each new year for almost half a century. His recording legacy includes numerous hit songs, and compilations like "My Winter Wonderland" and "With His Sweet Big Band (Remastered)" continue to reinvigorate Lombardo's enduring presence in American music. Although he passed away on November 5, 1977, Guy Lombardo's music lives on through re-releases and remastered tracks, exemplifying his impact on the traditional pop and big band scene.
