Eclipse Chamber Orchestra

The Eclipse Chamber Orchestra (ECO) was founded in 1992 by conductor and horn player Sylvia Alimena along with several colleagues from the National Symphony Orchestra. Since its inception, ECO has grown into one of the nation’s premier chamber ensembles, known for bringing classical music beyond traditional downtown arts centers and into broader communities, making the music accessible and engaging for all. The orchestra has a rich history of premiering works by contemporary composers like Mark Adamo and David Teie and has collaborated with notable artists such as organist William Neil and guest conductors Leonard Slatkin and violinist Joseph Silverstein.

Currently led by music director Abel Pereira, who is also a principal horn player with a distinguished international career, the orchestra continues its mission of exceptional performances across a diverse repertoire. ECO’s lineup features top-tier musicians primarily drawn from the National Symphony Orchestra, maintaining a high standard of artistry. The group’s recordings have been well received, including releases on the Naxos label, and they regularly perform a variety of classical and contemporary works, such as flute concertos and opera overtures.
