John Frandsen

John Frandsen was a respected Danish conductor, born on July 10, 1918, in Copenhagen. He studied at the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music and began his career as an organist at the Domkirke in Copenhagen from 1938 to 1953. Frandsen conducted the Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra from 1945 to 1946 and later became a conductor at the Royal Danish Theater, where he remained until 1980. He was particularly noted for his performances of Danish music, especially the works of Carl Nielsen, and was the first Danish conductor to introduce the music of Benjamin Britten to Danish audiences. Frandsen also toured extensively in the United States and Europe and made significant contributions to the Opera Academy in Copenhagen, which he managed from 1950 to 1980.
