Barrelhouse Chuck

Barrelhouse Chuck, born Charles Goering in 1958, was a revered American blues pianist and a torchbearer of the Chicago blues piano tradition. With his career spreading over four decades, Barrelhouse Chuck became well-known for his intimate mastery of boogie-woogie, blues, and barrelhouse piano styles, tirelessly dedicated to preserving the legacies of the great blues pianists who came before him.

A native of Columbus, Ohio, Chuck moved to Chicago in the 1970s, where he immersed himself in the city's rich blues scene and honed his craft under the tutelage of legendary pianists like Little Brother Montgomery and Sunnyland Slim, whom he later paid tribute to in his release "Salute To Sunnyland Slim." Over his career, Barrelhouse Chuck became a fixture on the Chicago blues circuit, collaborating with and earning the respect of many blues greats. His discography, including "Remembering the Masters" and the "25 Years of Chicago Blues Piano" series, showcases the depth of his passion for the genre and his expertise in the idiom, ensuring that the essence of Chicago blues piano is remembered and appreciated. Barrelhouse Chuck passed away in December 2016, but his contributions to the blues genre persevered, with his recordings continuing to serve as a significant reference point for the blues community and its enthusiasts.
