Jetplane Landing is an independent alternative rock band with a punchy, engaging sound that blurs the lines between punk, post-hardcore, and indie rock. Formed in Derry, Northern Ireland, in 1999, the group originally consisted of Andrew Ferris (guitar and vocals), Jamie Burchell (bass), Raife Burchell (drums), and Cahir O'Doherty (guitar). Known for their intense live performances and DIY ethos, they quickly built a reputation within the UK and Ireland’s underground music scene.
The band's creative journey can be traced through their discography, showcasing a development in sound and lyrical depth with each release. Their debut album 'Zero for Conduct' arrived in 2001, building a foundation for their punk-infused melody and politically charged lyrics. Over the next few years, they followed up with 'Once Like a Spark' in 2003 and 'Backlash Cop' in 2007, the latter of which included bold ventures into jazz and funk territories, reflecting their willingness to experiment and push genre boundaries. After a hiatus, the band returned with the album 'Don't Try' in 2013, reaffirming their status in the punk and indie rock scenes with its anthemic energy and sweeping guitar lines. Meanwhile, 'Els Quatre Gats,' a reference to the noted Barcelona café frequented by avant-garde artists, is a rare track that cements the band’s reputation for intertwining cultural references with their music. Through their career, Jetplane Landing has remained fiercely independent, releasing music on their own label, Smalltown America, and inspiring a generation of musicians with their uncompromising approach to their craft.
