Idyll Swords

Idyll Swords was an eclectic instrumental trio hailing from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, known for their unique blend of styles that encompassed elements of folk, drone, post-rock, and world music. Their creative force was composed of Chuck Johnson on guitar, who also handled keyboard duties, Grant Tennille on bass and banjo, and drummer and percussionist Scott Williams, all of whom contributed to the band's distinct, exploratory soundscapes.

The band's self-titled debut album, "Idyll Swords," released in 1998, introduced their experimental acoustics to the underground music scene, garnering attention for their intricate and often meditative musical journeys. They continued their sonic exploration with "II," which saw them further refining their crafts, showcasing a deepening expertise in intertwining melodies and textures. The trilogy was completed with "Idyll Swords III," which built upon their established foundation of rich, acoustic-driven compositions, blending a mix of traditional and avant-garde approaches that solidified their standing as innovative contributors to the independent music scene. Throughout their career, Idyll Swords' work has been celebrated for its unique ability to weave together traditional instrumentation with forward-thinking musicality, creating a space where genre boundaries are both respected and transcended.
