Vyacheslav Ganelin

Vyacheslav Ganelin is a pioneering figure in the world of avant-garde and free jazz, particularly known for his work as the leader of the legendary Ganelin Trio, one of the most important experimental jazz groups to emerge from the Soviet Union during the 1970s and 1980s. Born in Russia and later based in Lithuania and Israel, Ganelin has built a reputation as a fearless composer, pianist, and improviser, blending jazz with classical, folk, and Eastern European musical traditions.

Much of Ganelin’s work pushes the boundaries of genre, characterized by high-energy performances, adventurous compositions, and a flair for theatricality. Whether in solo projects or collaborations like “Trio Alliance,” Ganelin continues to influence contemporary jazz by embracing spontaneity and complexity. His contributions have helped shape the landscape of European improvisational music and earned him a dedicated following among fans of experimental and boundary-pushing jazz.
