Gov't Mule is an American Southern rock jam band formed in 1994 as a side project of The Allman Brothers Band by guitarist Warren Haynes and bassist Allen Woody, along with drummer Matt Abts. Initially intended to be a power trio, the group was conceived as an outlet for musical exploration and improvisation outside the boundaries of The Allman Brothers. With eclectic influences ranging from psychedelic rock to funk, jazz, and blues, Gov't Mule carved out a niche for themselves, becoming a staple on the live music circuit with their dynamic performances and relentless touring schedule.
