El Palmas
El Palmas is the musical alias of Maurice Aymard, a Venezuelan-born DJ, producer, and label founder now based in Barcelona. Growing up surrounded by vinyl in his family’s record shops, Maurice developed a deep love for music early on, collecting records and soaking up sounds ranging from rock and hip hop to salsa and merengue. After moving to Spain in the 2000s, he launched the El Palmas Music label, which has become known for unearthing and reissuing rare gems from Venezuela’s golden age of tropical music, as well as curating compilations that celebrate the vibrant, eclectic spirit of Latin rhythms.
As a DJ and selector, El Palmas brings a wide-ranging taste to clubs and events around the world, spinning everything from salsa and cumbia to disco and electronic music. His passion for vinyl and underground sounds has led him to release and compile albums that pay tribute to forgotten legends and experimental pioneers, including the cult electronic artist Angel Rada. With a career that blends curation, production, and performance, El Palmas continues to connect audiences with the rich, living traditions of tropical music.
