Vallenfyre was a British death/doom metal supergroup formed in 2010 by Paradise Lost's lead guitarist, Gregor Mackintosh, as a tribute to his late father. The band's lineup also featured notable members from other esteemed acts, including Hamish Glencross (ex-My Dying Bride) on guitar, Scoot (Doom, Extinction of Mankind) on bass, and Adrian Erlandsson (At the Gates, The Haunted) on drums. Distinguished for its raw, unpolished sound that draws heavily from the early days of death and doom metal, Vallenfyre set itself apart with lyrics that revolved around themes of loss, despair, and social commentary.
Throughout their active years, Vallenfyre released three critically acclaimed full-length albums: "A Fragile King" (2011), "Splinters" (2014), and "Fear Those Who Fear Him" (2017). Each album witnessed the band delving deeper into the gritty and morose atmosphere that defined their sound, moving from the personal tragedy that inspired "A Fragile King" to more expansive meditations on humanity's darker aspects. Tracks like "An Apathetic Grave" and "Kill All Your Masters" showcased their ability to blend crushing riffs with profoundly emotional undertones. Despite the band's disbandment announcement in 2018, following a farewell tour, Vallenfyre's discography remains a testament to their significant impact on the underground metal scene, merging macabre storytelling with relentless sonic intensity.
