Helena Marinho is a distinguished Portuguese musicologist and pianist known for her extensive contributions to the field of music. She is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Aveiro, where she coordinates the Institute of Ethnomusicology – Centre of Studies in Music and Dance. Her research focuses on artistic research, 20th and 21st-century Portuguese music history, music and gender, and empirical music studies. As a performer, Helena Marinho has presented solo and chamber concerts in numerous countries, including Portugal, the USA, Brazil, and several European nations. She has also recorded multiple CDs featuring classical and contemporary repertoire on both modern piano and fortepiano.
Helena Marinho's academic background includes master's degrees from the Norwegian State School of Music and the University of Kansas, and she completed her Ph.D. at the University of Sheffield. Her performing career often informs her artistic research outputs, and she has premiered several contemporary works. She has led multiple research projects and has been involved in various educational roles, including directing the Master in Music program at the University of Aveiro. Her recent releases include works such as "Sons de Euterpe — Compositoras XX-XXI — vol.
