Sonora Paramarera

Sonora Paramarera was a Surinamese music ensemble known for playing Latin American music. The group had two distinct periods, starting in 1951 and again in 1960. During its first period, from 1951 to 1958, the group was led by Eddy Snijders and performed various styles including merengue, calypso, and the Surinamese genre kaseko.

In 1960, the group continued with a completely new lineup, characterized by extensive use of percussion. The musicians included singers Roy Chin A Paw and Roy Bennet, saxophonist Ruud Verhelst, pianist Michel Tang Yuk, and others. This iteration blended styles like reggae, salsa, jazz, Latin, and soca. Notable songs from Sonora Paramarera include *Kondre nomroe wan*, *Lobi dee*, and *Presiri verjari*. In 2013, several of their tracks appeared on the Srefidensi Top 38 list, celebrating Suriname's independence.
