Thurston Harris was an American singer, prominent during the golden age of rock and roll in the 1950s. Born on July 11, 1931, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Harris was initially part of a doo-wop group known as The Lamplighters during the early 1950s. The group achieved moderate success but it was Harris' later solo work that would cement his place in music history. In 1957, he signed with Aladdin Records and produced his most notable hit, "Little Bitty Pretty One."
"Little Bitty Pretty One," which he released in 1957, is Harris' signature song and made a significant impact on the charts. It charmed its way into the Billboard Top 40 and has since become a rock and roll classic, covered by artists such as The Jackson 5 and Clyde McPhatter. Although Harris never replicated the major success of that hit, he continued to record and perform, leaving behind a trove of work that was later compiled into collections like "Anthology: The Definitive Collection (Remastered)". In the ensuing years, his contribution to the genre has been celebrated in various reissues and remastered editions of his music, preserving his legacy for new generations to appreciate. Thurston Harris passed away on April 14, 1990, but his work continues to resonate, a testament to his enduring influence on the rock and roll canon.
