Roger Wolfe Kahn & His Orchestra

Roger Wolfe Kahn & His Orchestra was a prominent American dance band during the 1920s and early 1930s, led by Roger Wolfe Kahn, a wealthy and classically trained musician and the son of financier Otto Kahn. Known for his musical versatility and eye for talent, Roger assembled an orchestra that featured some of the era’s finest musicians, including future jazz legends like Artie Shaw and Joe Venuti. The band was known for its polished sound, lively interpretations of popular tunes, and elegant jazz arrangements that captured the spirit of the Jazz Age.

Though Kahn was a capable bandleader and composer, what really set his orchestra apart was the caliber of players he hired and his commitment to high-quality performances. His recordings, such as “Crazy Rhythm” and “Clap Yo’ Hands,” are still appreciated today for their vibrant energy and historical importance in the development of American popular music during the swing and dance band eras.
