Control Machete burst onto the music scene as a pioneering Latin hip hop group from Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. Formed in 1996, the group’s core members were Fermín IV (Fermín IV Caballero Elizondo), Pato (Patricio Elizalde), and Toy Hernández (Toy Selectah). Their raw lyrical content and innovative production played a pivotal role in the development and popularization of Latin American hip hop.
Their debut album, "Mucho Barato…," released in 1997, immediately captured the attention of international listeners with its hard-hitting tracks and socio-political commentary, influencing the Latin music landscape with its unique blend of rap and traditional sounds. Control Machete continued their powerful trajectory with the follow-up albums "Artillería Pesada, Presenta…" in 1999, a record that cemented their place in Latin hip hop history with an even more polished sound and sharp-witted lyricism. The group’s acclaim grew with "Uno, Dos: Bandera" (2003), which expertly expanded their sonic boundaries and provided anthemic hits that resonated with a generation. Although the group went on hiatus not too long after, their influence remained, and the members continued with individual careers. In 2006, they briefly reunited for the release of "Singles," a collection that celebrated their groundbreaking hits and lasting impact on the genre. Control Machete's gritty narratives and robust beats continue to inspire artists and fans within the rap and broader music community.
