Allen Toussaint

Allen Toussaint was an American musician, songwriter, arranger, and record producer, who was an influential figure in New Orleans R&B from the 1950s to the end of the century. Born on January 14, 1938, in New Orleans, Louisiana, his career spanned over five decades and he was known for his profound impact on the sound of New Orleans music. Toussaint's work includes compositions for a wide array of artists, including Lee Dorsey ("Working in a Coalmine"), The Pointer Sisters ("Yes We Can Can"), and his own recordings, such as the album "Southern Nights."

Toussaint's elegant approach to the piano and ear for melody led him to work with some of the biggest names in the industry, and his songs have been covered by artists ranging from The Rolling Stones to Jerry Garcia. He received numerous awards and recognitions, including being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame, the Blues Hall of Fame, and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. His album "American Tunes," released posthumously in 2016, is a final testament to his wide-ranging talent and influence.
