Khadja Nin is a Burundian singer and musician who has made a significant impact on the world music scene. Born on June 27, 1959, in Burundi, she was the youngest of eight children in a family where her father held a prominent position as a diplomat and Minister of the Interior. Nin's musical journey began early, becoming a lead vocalist in the Bujumbura choir at just seven years old.
After leaving Burundi in 1975 and briefly living in Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo), Nin emigrated to Belgium in 1980 with her young son. Her breakthrough in the music industry came in 1985 when she signed with BMG. Nin's 1994 album "Ya Pili" received critical acclaim, but it was her 1996 release "Sambolera" that brought her widespread popularity. Known for blending African rhythms with modern pop elements, Nin sings in multiple languages including Swahili, Kirundi, and French, creating a unique and captivating sound.
