Black Mama

Black Mama is a politically charged post-punk collective hailing from Skopje, North Macedonia, formed in 2016. Known for their raw energy and genre-blurring sound, they mix Balkan folk motifs with garage rock intensity and experimental noise, often singing in multiple languages (including Macedonian, Spanish, and English) to reflect their pan-European DIY ethos. Their recent releases like *Via Jugoslavija* and *Egzil* showcase their trademark commentary on borders, displacement, and collective memory, delivered through distorted folk instruments and primal rhythms. The band operates as a rotating crew of musicians and visual artists, frequently collaborating with regional acts like Bato The Yugo while maintaining an underground presence through self-organized Balkan tours and handcrafted cassette releases.
