Restricted Code

Restricted Code is a Scottish post-punk band originally formed in 1978 in the Easterhouse area of Glasgow by school friends Tom Cannavan and Frank Quadrelli. They drew influences from punk, new wave, funk, and soul, gaining early attention with touring alongside The Human League and recording John Peel sessions. Their promising start culminated in some critical acclaim by notable music journalists like Paul Morley, who named them “band most likely to…” in 1980. After disbanding in 1980, they reformed in 2018 with the original songwriting partnership intact, including members Kenny Blythe, Robert McCormick, and Les Gaff, and have since released new music such as their 2025 album "Chasing Shadows".

Known for intelligent, original music rooted firmly in New Wave, Restricted Code blends energetic post-punk sounds with thoughtful songwriting. Lead vocalist and guitarist Tom Cannavan, who went on to a distinguished career as a wine journalist, remains a key creative force in the band. Their reunion has been warmly received, with recent releases and live shows highlighting their enduring relevance in the Glasgow music scene.
