Nada Mamula

Nada Mamula was a renowned Yugoslav and Bosnian sevdalinka vocalist, celebrated for her rich and emotive voice, which became synonymous with the traditional folk genre of the regions she represented. Born on January 9, 1927, in Belgrade, Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Mamula developed an early passion for the melancholic melodies and poetic lyrics of sevdalinka, a genre that reflects the soul of Bosnian culture.

Over the span of her illustrious career, Mamula preserved and popularized sevdalinka throughout former Yugoslavia and globally, becoming one of its most cherished interpreters. Her repertoire was invariably imbued with the essence of sevdah—the emotional and soulful expression that is often at the heart of Balkan music. Her most recent releases, such as "Glas," "Sevdah i sevdalinke," and "Sarajevu," serve as a testament to her enduring connection with the traditional sounds and stories of the Balkans. Albums like "Antologija," "Pesmaricaa," and "Partizanske pesme" showcase her versatility and commitment to preserving not just sevdalinka, but also other important folk traditions. Mamula passed away on October 11, 2001, but her contributions to the world of music live on, immortalized through her timeless recordings and the affection of her listeners.
