Howard Ionascu is a renowned conductor and musical director, known for his extensive experience in choral conducting and leadership roles in various esteemed choirs. Born in Newham, England, he studied music at the University of Manchester before starting his career as a Vicar Choral in Wells Cathedral Choir. In 1997, he founded The Laudate Choir, which has performed regularly in London and beyond, collaborating with prominent orchestras and recording several CDs. Howard has held positions as Musical Director of several choirs, including Bournemouth Sinfonietta Choir, Finchley Children’s Choir, and The Esterhazy Singers, and has worked with Guildford Choral Society and City of London Choir. He is currently the Musical Director of Exeter Philharmonic Choir, The Laudate Choir, and Twickenham Choral.
Howard Ionascu's leadership extends beyond conducting, as he has taught at Radley College and Royal Grammar School, Guildford, and was Director of Music at The King’s School, Canterbury. He also served as Director of the Junior Academy of the Royal Academy of Music and, since 2019, has been Director of Chapel Music and Quiristers at Winchester College. His work includes numerous recordings and performances with orchestras such as the City of London Sinfonia and English Chamber Orchestra. Recent recordings include "A Winter's Night" and "The Choral Music of Herbert Brewer," showcasing his versatility in choral music.
