Luisa Castellani

Luisa Castellani is a renowned Italian lyric soprano, born on August 10, 1959, in Milan. She has been particularly active in the contemporary vocal music scene. Castellani graduated from the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Cuneo and furthered her studies in traditional and contemporary repertoire with notable mentors like Gina Cigna and Dorothy Dorow. She won the prestigious Premio Gino Tani in 1991 and was recognized by Luciano Berio as a successor to Cathy Berberian. Castellani is not only a celebrated performer but also a respected educator; she has taught at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano and, since 2018, has been a professor at the Scuola Universitaria di Musica. She has collaborated with distinguished conductors and orchestras worldwide, including performances at Teatro alla Scala in Milan and the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Her extensive discography includes releases with prominent labels like Deutsche Grammophon and Rai Trade.
