Spinal Tap

Spinal Tap is a fictional British heavy metal band created by American comedians and musicians Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, and Harry Shearer. The band rose to prominence through the 1984 mockumentary film This Is Spinal Tap, directed by Rob Reiner, which hilariously chronicled the misadventures of the notoriously loud and unlucky rock group. McKean (as David St. Hubbins), Guest (as Nigel Tufnel), and Shearer (as Derek Smalls) portrayed the core members of the band, blending sharp musical parody with surprisingly solid rock chops.

Although born from satire, Spinal Tap transcended its fictional roots, with the actors writing and performing their own songs, releasing multiple albums, and performing live shows that blurred the line between parody and genuine rock performance. Hits like "Stonehenge," "Big Bottom," and "Hell Hole" have become cult classics, and their legendary amplifier that "goes to eleven" is an enduring pop culture reference. The band’s continuing presence, including anniversary remasters and new releases, showcases their lasting impact on music and comedy alike.
