Grooverider, born Raymond Bingham, is a pioneering figure in the UK drum and bass scene. Known for his deep, dark sound and relentless innovation, he played a key role in shaping the genre during its formative years in the early '90s. Alongside longtime collaborator Fabio, Grooverider was instrumental in pushing jungle into new territory through influential club nights like Rage at Heaven in London, where their sets helped define the blueprint for what would become drum and bass.
Apart from his legendary DJ sets, Grooverider is also known for his work as a producer, including under the alias Codename John. His 1998 album "Mysteries of Funk," released on Sony, is considered a landmark release that brought a more cinematic and atmospheric edge to drum and bass. He also curated the influential compilation "The Prototype Years," showcasing many cutting-edge tracks from the scene. A longtime presence on the airwaves, Grooverider has been a tastemaker through his radio work—most notably with Fabio on BBC Radio 1—spreading the sound of drum and bass to a global audience.
