Tingvall Trio

Tingvall Trio is an internationally acclaimed jazz ensemble known for its distinctive blend of jazz with various global influences, culminating in a sound that is both accessible and sophisticated. Formed in Hamburg, Germany in 2003, the trio consists of the Cuban double bassist Omar Rodriguez Calvo, the Swedish pianist and primary composer Martin Tingvall, and the German drummer Jürgen Spiegel. Over the years, Tingvall Trio has earned a reputation for their vibrant and melodic compositions that resonate with a wide spectrum of audiences, crossing the traditional boundaries of jazz.

Their music is characterized by a lyrical approach and interplay that is very much anchored in the tradition of the classic jazz piano trio format, yet Tingvall Trio regularly incorporates elements from folk, classical, and world music traditions. With albums like "Vägen," which won the ECHO Jazz Award for best national ensemble, and the contemplative serenity of "Cirklar," the trio has consistently pushed their creative boundaries. Their recent releases like "Birds" and "Beat (Bonus Version)" display an evolution of their sound, where they subtly infuse their jazz roots with more contemporary textures and rhythms, further solidifying Tingvall Trio's status as a seminal fixture on the international jazz scene.
