Starland Vocal Band was a pop group best known for their hit single "Afternoon Delight," which soared to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1976. Formed in Washington, D.C., the band included Bill Danoff, Taffy Nivert, Jon Carroll, and Margot Chapman. Danoff and Nivert had previously written songs with John Denver, including the classic "Take Me Home, Country Roads." Their sweet harmonies and feel-good sound earned them not only commercial success but also a couple of Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist.
The group's self-titled debut album featured "Afternoon Delight" and helped catapult them into the spotlight, even leading to a short-lived television variety show. While they never replicated the massive success of their signature hit, Starland Vocal Band remains a memorable part of 1970s pop music history, especially when it comes to catchy tunes and rich vocal harmonies.
