Rex Allen

Rex Allen, known as the "Arizona Cowboy" and later recognized as America's last singing cowboy, was a multi-talented performer whose career spanned across singing, acting, and songwriting within the realms of Western music and Western films. Born on December 31, 1920, in Willcox, Arizona, Rex Elvie Allen's distinctive baritone voice became a staple in the era of cinematic cowboys and country music.

Rex Allen's career took off in the 1940s when he signed with Mercury Records, but his fame solidified when he joined the ranks of the Hollywood cowboy elite, starring in a number of Western films throughout the 1950s. In addition to his work on the silver screen, Allen achieved success with his recordings, which often celebrated the American West and cowboy life, highlighted in albums such as "Under Western Skies" and "Greatest Cowboy Songs." He also earned the title of a Disney legend due to his significant contributions as a narrator for many Walt Disney films and television projects. Later generations would be introduced to his legacy through collaborative works like "Rex Allen Sr & Rex Allen Jr - Live at Church Street Station," exhibiting the Allen family’s enduring musical talent. Rex Allen's influence on Western music and his portrayal of an on-screen cowboy have etched his name in the annals of Americana, leaving an indelible mark on the genre. He passed away on December 17, 1999, but his music, including "The Last of the Great Singing Cowboys" and "Singing Cowboy," continues to resonate with aficionados of the Western music tradition.
