Spafford Campbell is a contemporary folk duo from England, consisting of fiddle player Owen Spafford and guitarist Louis Campbell. They first met as teenagers in the National Youth Folk Ensemble and formed their duo in 2018, blending deep roots in English folk with experimental and improvisational influences. Their music combines folk, jazz, post-rock, and chamber classical styles, characterized by subtle, dynamic interplay and a minimalist yet expressive approach. Owen Spafford is a BBC Young Composer of the Year nominee and Royal Academy of Music scholar, while Campbell studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and has performed with notable folk artists.
The duo signed with Real World Records and released their debut album *You, Golden* in 2022, followed by the album *Tomorrow Held* in August 2025. *Tomorrow Held* features largely instrumental tracks that explore spacious soundscapes with effects pedals, ambient loops, and contributions from bass clarinet and double bass, showcasing their skill at creating intimate, telepathic musical conversations. Their single “MacGill” pays homage to American songwriting legends Jimmy Webb and Glen Campbell, reflecting their sophisticated fusion of jazz harmony and folk sensibility. Spafford Campbell’s work stands out for pushing folk’s boundaries while maintaining a strong connection to tradition.
