Сергей Курёхин

Сергей Курёхин was a seminal figure in Russian avant-garde music, known for his eclectic and experimental approach to composition and performance. Born on June 16, 1954, in Murmansk, he was a prolific artist whose career spanned genres ranging from jazz fusion to free improvisation and from contemporary classical to postmodern pastiches.

Kuryokhin began his career in the late 1970s and quickly became a prominent member of the Leningrad underground music scene. His band, Pop-Mechanica, became notorious for chaotic and theatrical live performances that deconstructed the boundaries between music, performance art, and spectacle. Kuryokhin was also recognized for his solo works where he exhibited an extraordinary level of musicianship and a disregard for conventional structures, often incorporating multimedia elements into his compositions.

Throughout the 1980s and until his untimely death in 1996 at the age of 42, Kuryokhin continued to push the limits of musical expression, collaborating with a diverse array of artists and contributing to the soundtracks of several films. His discography, including the releases “Поп-Механика в Noci,” “Осенние ритмы - 84,” and “Опера богатых. Deluxe Edition,” showcases his unparalleled capacity to craft soundscapes that are as intellectually challenging as they are emotionally resonant. Kuryokhin remains a legendary figure whose work continues to influence and inspire musicians and composers across the globe.
