Trio Lescano

Trio Lescano was a female vocal group which played a seminal role in the history of Italian music, particularly during the 1930s and 1940s, considered the golden age of jazz in Italy. The group consisted of three sisters: Alessandra, Giuditta, and "Caterinetta" Lescano, who were born in the Netherlands but moved to Italy. They became known for their peculiar singing style characterized by close harmonies and scat-like vocalizations inspired by the American Andrews Sisters, which they adapted into the Italian music scene, establishing themselves as the female voice of Italian swing.

The sisters soared to fame with a number of hits, among which "Tulipan" and "Ma le gambe" are celebrated examples. Their music was characterized by its playful and light-hearted nature, blending Italian melodies with the contemporary jazz rhythms. The Lescano's signature sound was the creative and intricate vocal arrangements that endeared them to the public. Despite the group disbanding in the late 1940s, their music has remained influential and beloved, leading to multiple retrospectives and collections of their work being released, such as "50 Super Hits" and volumes like "Trio Lescano at Their Best" which feature collaborations with notable Italian artists of the era. Their legacy is that of pioneers who infused Italian music with the spirit of jazz and established a lasting template for vocal groups.
