Hangedup

Hangedup is an avant-garde post-rock duo hailing from Montreal, Canada, composed of Genevieve Heistek on viola and Eric Craven on drums. The pair started creating music together in 1999, seamlessly blending elements of punk, drone, and classical music to forge a unique sound that hinges on relentless rhythms and the dark, emotive pull of Heistek’s strings. Their self-titled debut album "Hangedup" arrived in 2001, quickly establishing the group's penchant for experimental soundscapes and a no-holds-barred approach to composition.

Over the years, Hangedup has cultivated a distinct niche within the experimental music scene, as evidenced by subsequent albums such as "Kicker In Tow" (2002), which further defined their abrasive yet hauntingly melodic sound. By the time they released "Clatter for Control" in 2005 and "Transit of Venus" in 2012, Hangedup had solidified their reputation as purveyors of intense, instrumental music that defies conventional categorization. Their recordings are often marked by a marriage of disciplined musicianship and improvisational fervor, earning them critical acclaim and a dedicated following among aficionados of post-rock and experimental genres.
