Gaelynn Lea is a classically trained violinist, songwriter, and disability rights advocate based in Duluth, Minnesota. She’s known for her haunting, atmospheric style, often looping layers of violin to create a rich, emotive sound. Born with a congenital condition called osteogenesis imperfecta, which causes brittle bones and affects her stature, Lea developed her own unique violin technique, playing the instrument like a tiny cello. She first gained national attention after winning NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest in 2016 with her moving song "Someday We'll Linger in the Sun." Since then, she’s released several albums and toured extensively, using her platform to also speak out about accessibility and inclusion in the music industry.
