Violent Bear

Violent Bear is a garage folk band with roots in Southern Gothic style, drawing inspiration from the Flannery O'Connor novel *The Violent Bear It Away*, which also inspired their name. The band originally started as The West but changed their name after discovering another band with that name. The core members include Stephen, an electrical engineer and marketing director, and a stay-at-home mom/artist who writes most of their music and fronts the band. They have been playing and making music together for nearly a decade, blending personal storytelling with evolving sounds that now also include contributions from the Cassity brothers—Noah on lead guitar and Jonas on bass—who have added depth and a more politically charged, youthful tone to their music. Violent Bear began with a roots music and Southern Gothic vibe but has creatively transformed over time while remaining tight-knit and motivated by love and meaningful narratives.
