The J. Geils Band

The J. Geils Band, formed in 1968, is an American rock band that emerged from the burgeoning music scene in Worcester, Massachusetts. The band was fronted by singer Peter Wolf, with guitarist John "J." Geils, bassist Danny Klein, harmonica player Richard "Magic Dick" Salwitz, drummer Stephen Bladd, and keyboardist Seth Justman. Their energetic live performances and fusion of blues rock, R&B, and pop-rock elements became their trademark style, which won them a faithful fan base throughout the 1970s.

The J. Geils Band gained commercial success in the late 1970s and early 1980s with albums like "Sanctuary" (1978), "Love Stinks" (1980), "Freeze Frame" (1981), which included their most famous hit single "Centerfold," and "Showtime!" (1982), their third live album. Although the group initially disbanded in 1985 following a shift towards a more new wave sound, their earlier hard-driving blues-influenced albums, such as "Nightmares...And Other Tales From The Vinyl Jungle" (1974) and "Hotline" (1975), remain influential, showcasing their ability to bridge the cap between classic rhythm and blues and rock & roll. Over the decades, The J. Geils Band has reunited for various tours and performances, cementing their legacy in rock history, though the death of John Geils in 2017 marked the end of an era for the original lineup.
