Mint Royale

Mint Royale is a big-beat electronic music project that originated from Manchester, UK, in the late 1990s. Initially started by Neil Claxton and Chris Baker (better known as DJ Swerve), the duo's energetic and sample-heavy sound quickly made waves on the dance music scene. Their adventurous production style integrated elements of house, electronica, and a hefty dose of pop sensibility, which garnered them critical acclaim and a dedicated following. Mint Royale gained notoriety with tracks like "Singin' in the Rain," which was famously used for a Gene Kelly-inspired routine by George Sampson to win "Britain's Got Talent" in 2008. This led to the track topping the UK Singles Chart.

Over the years, Mint Royale went through various transformations. Chris Baker left the project early on, and Neil Claxton continued to produce music under the Mint Royale name until his departure in 2004. At that point, the moniker was adopted solely by producer Neil Claxton, who sustained the project's distinctive sound and kept releasing high-octane tracks. The group became synonymous with upbeat tunes that often feature catchy hooks and vocal samples. Their later releases, such as "Time," "Ring," and "Pop Is...," continued to exemplify their commitment to fusing rhythmic dance beats with a pop aesthetic, ensuring their music remained fresh and relevant in the ever-evolving landscape of electronic music. Their work also includes remixes for major artists, further cementing Mint Royale's reputation as innovators in the remix arena.
