Rich Kids were a British punk rock and power pop band formed in 1977 by bassist Glen Matlock shortly after his departure from the Sex Pistols. The group also featured Midge Ure on vocals and guitar, Steve New on guitar, and Rusty Egan on drums. Known for adding a melodic and polished edge to the raw energy of punk, Rich Kids were part of the post-punk and new wave movements taking shape in late '70s Britain.
Their only studio album, Ghosts of Princes in Towers, was released in 1978 and showcased the band's blend of punk attitude with polished musicianship and pop sensibilities. Although short-lived, Rich Kids left a legacy that's been recognized as influential in the development of new wave and synthpop through the later work of its members—most notably Midge Ure, who went on to achieve major success with Ultravox.
