Laurent Petitgirard is a renowned French classical composer and conductor, born on June 10, 1950, in Paris. He has composed a wide range of works, including operas, ballets, symphonic poems, and chamber music, as well as nearly 140 scores for film and television. His operas include "Joseph Merrick dit Elephant Man" and "Guru," with the latter exploring themes of mental manipulation. Petitgirard has also conducted some of the world's leading orchestras and was the Music Director of the Orchestre Colonne in Paris until 2018. He is currently a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts and continues to compose and guest conduct.
Recent releases featuring his work include "Si Yeou Ki," a ballet based on "Journey to the West," and "Guru," which was premiered in Poland in 2018. His compositions often blend dramatic flair with refined musicality, making him a notable figure in contemporary classical music. Petitgirard is also known for his work on film scores, including music for several films by Francis Girod and the 1991 Maigret television series. His latest projects include a third opera, "Houdini," currently in development.
