Alexander Gergelyfi is a talented Austrian pianist and specialist in historical keyboard instruments, born in Linz. He studied early music performance and historical keyboards across Europe, including in Linz, Graz, Strasbourg, and Hamburg, under prominent professors such as August Humer and Brett Leighton. Passionate about Austrian music from the 17th and 18th centuries, he performs as a soloist, chamber musician, and with orchestras like il Gusto Barocco, Neue Hofkapelle Graz, and the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg. Since 2018, Alexander has been teaching clavichord, historical basso continuo, and early music studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.
He has released several acclaimed albums, including the award-winning ensemble Verbotene Frucht albums "Morbides mit Charakter" (2018) and "Liebe auf den ersten Schluck" (2022), as well as his solo debut "Sapperlot!" in 2022, which received enthusiastic reviews. Notably, in 2023 he debuted at the Salzburg Festival alongside baritone Georg Nigl in a project exploring Mozart’s music played on the very clavichord Mozart composed on. This album, "Mozart’s Clavichord," showcases Gergelyfi’s expertise on historical keyboard instruments, recreating an intimate soundworld reflective of Mozart’s home environment.
