General Public

General Public was a British band formed in the early 1980s by vocalists Dave Wakeling and Ranking Roger, both former members of the ska band The Beat (known as The English Beat in North America). Known for blending elements of new wave, pop, and ska, General Public debuted with their 1984 album All the Rage, which featured the hit single "Tenderness." The song became a staple of '80s radio and soundtracks, helping to cement the band's place in the era's vibrant alternative music scene.

Following their debut, General Public released Hand to Mouth in 1986 and later reunited in the '90s to release Rub It Better. While their lineup experienced changes over the years, the unmistakable vocal chemistry between Wakeling and Ranking Roger remained at the heart of the band's sound. Their music, marked by upbeat rhythms and socially conscious lyrics, continues to resonate with fans of post-2 Tone ska and '80s new wave.
