Gary Young

Gary Young was the original drummer for the influential indie rock band Pavement, known for his wild energy and unpredictable stage antics that helped shape the band’s early identity. He played on Pavement’s debut album, Slanted and Enchanted (1992), bringing a lo-fi, DIY vibe to the group’s sound during their formative years. After parting ways with Pavement, Young launched a solo career, releasing quirky and experimental music under the name Gary Young’s Hospital. His solo work, including songs like “Plant Man” and “I’ve Got a Secret,” reflects his offbeat sensibility and remains beloved by fans of ‘90s alternative and lo-fi rock.

Known for his eccentric personality and unconventional drumming style, Young played a key role in defining the raw aesthetic of early Pavement recordings.
