Olde Throne

Olde Throne is a melodic and atmospheric black metal project born from Harrison McKenzie's time living in Glencoe, Scotland. After relocating back to his native Christchurch, New Zealand, McKenzie channeled the inspiration he'd drawn from the Scottish highlands into creating this project, which was officially formed in 2020. The band crafts intricate black metal that weaves together historical and mythological narratives, with each album exploring different eras—from the 19th-century Irish famine on *An Gorta Mór* (2022) to the spectral folklore of 17th- and 18th-century Scotland on *In the Land of Ghosts* (2023).

McKenzie's most recent full-length, *Megalith* (2025), released via Italian label Avantgarde Music, represents an ambitious creative leap. The album ventures into the Neolithic age, drawing from Celtic mythology and tales dating back 10,000 BC, with atmospheric elements like flutes, throat singing, and tribal drums creating what the band calls "Neolithic Black Metal." The project features McKenzie handling vocals, guitars, and bass, supported by collaborators like Zannibal on lead guitars and synthesizers. Designed as a single, unbroken auditory ritual, *Megalith* is a concept piece that demands to be experienced from beginning to end, bridging the gap between melodic black metal traditions and immersive historical storytelling.
