Rafa Xambó is a multitalented artist from Algemesí in Spain’s Ribera Alta region, widely recognized as a sociologist, writer, and musician. Born in 1954, he made his mark in the 1970s as part of the Valencian Nova Cançó movement—a cultural and musical current that used song to challenge injustice and express resistance during and after the Franco dictatorship. After a long hiatus from the music scene, Xambó returned to public performances around the turn of the century and has since released several acclaimed albums, including “Cantata de València,” “La dansa d’un temps nou,” “Llibertat!,” and “Últimes cançons,” showcasing his blend of thoughtful lyrics and memorable melodies.
Besides his creative work, Rafa Xambó is also a professor at the University of Valencia, specializing in social movements and Valencian cultural identity. His songs often reflect his commitment to both art and activism, making him a beloved figure among fans of contemporary Valencian music and literature. With nine albums to his name, Xambó announced in 2023 that he was bidding farewell to the stage, marking the end of a prolific musical chapter with the release of “Últimes cançons”.
