Formed by four close friends who grew up playing folk and classical music together in Scotland, the quartet has gained acclaim for their fresh approach to the classical repertoire and their passion for Scottish folk traditions.
Since winning first prize at the Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition in 2017, the Maxwell Quartet has toured extensively across Europe and the United States, earning praise for their energetic performances and innovative programming. Their recordings for Linn Records, which pair Haydn string quartets with their own arrangements of Scottish folk tunes, have received critical acclaim and commercial success.
