Blindead is a Polish progressive metal band known for their atmospheric compositions, profound lyrical content, and technical musicianship. Originally formed in Gdynia in 1999 by guitarist Mateusz Śmierzchalski, formerly of the extreme metal band Behemoth, and drummer Michał Łapaj, now also a member of the progressive rock band Riverside, Blindead has continually evolved their sound over two decades. With beginnings rooted in sludge and post-metal, the band has progressively incorporated diverse influences, resulting in a rich and dynamic soundscape.
The band's most recent offerings demonstrate their unflagging commitment to pushing the boundaries of their genre. "Niewiosna," released in 2019, showcases the band's ability to meld brooding intensity with poignant moments of calm, revealing the band's refined storytelling abilities through both instrumentation and compelling vocals. Earlier works like "Ascension" and "Absence," both released in 2016, as well as "Affliction XXIX II MXMVI" from 2013, feature dense sonic layers that unfold with each listen. With "Impulse," an earlier release from 2010, Blindead adeptly laid the groundwork for the complex and exploratory sounds that they would come to master in their later work. Through an ever-expanding discography, Blindead continues to cement their position as titans of the progressive metal realm, earning a dedicated following in Poland and beyond.
