The Shin

The Shin is a unique and dynamic Georgian ensemble known for blending traditional Georgian folk music with various global influences, fusing jazz, Eastern European classical music, and even progressive rock elements into their compositions. The band was founded in Germany in 1998 by Zaza Miminoshvili (guitars, vocals), Zurab Gagnidze (bass, vocals), and Mamuka Gaganidze (percussion, vocals), who all hail from Georgia. The name "The Shin" literally translates to "home" in Georgian, signifying the group's deep connection to their cultural roots while their music continues to journey far beyond.

Their innovative and improvisational approach has earned them international acclaim as they seamlessly integrate polyphonic Georgian vocal harmonies with contemporary soundscapes. The works such as "Tseruli," "Es Ari," and "Black Sea Fire" showcase the ensemble's ability to create a sonic tapestry that reflects their heritage and simultaneously appeals to a global audience. With each release, such as "Many Timer" and "Egari," The Shin continues to push the boundaries of folk fusion, maintaining a fresh perspective in World Music genres. The song "ადიო" (Adio) underscores their commitment to evolution and fusion, as they maintain the Georgian traditional musical core while exploring broader, eclectic musical territories.
