Jamie James is a seasoned Canadian guitarist, singer, and songwriter known for his dynamic roles in bands like DQ and The Sharks (featuring actor Dennis Quaid), the rockabilly trio The Kingbees, and as a touring member of Steppenwolf in the late 1970s. He founded The Kingbees, a rockabilly band that saw success in the early ’80s with their hit “My Mistake,” blending rock ‘n’ roll with blues influences. Beyond this, he developed a unique musical relationship with actor Harry Dean Stanton, collaborating for nearly two decades. Jamie’s long career spans over five decades, marked by his skillful guitar playing and songwriting rooted in blues, rockabilly, and Americana.
In 2025, Jamie released his solo album *Straight Up*, recorded live in one day with longtime bandmates, showcasing his evolution as an artist and his continued passion for blending blues and rock ‘n’ roll. This album reflects his life experiences, including recovery from open-heart surgery during the pandemic, and features a soulful touch with harmonica contributions inspired by his early blues influences and his time playing with Stanton. Jamie remains based in Los Angeles, where he co-founded the We Jam Music label to produce and release new music, staying creatively active well into his seventies.
