Matt Sweeney

Matt Sweeney is a guitarist, vocalist, and producer known for his eclectic collaborations and distinctive playing style that blends rock, folk, and experimental elements. He first rose to prominence in the early ’90s as the frontman of the indie rock band Chavez and later worked with influential acts like Billy Corgan’s Zwan and heavy metal supergroup Soldiers of Fortune. Sweeney is also a highly sought-after session guitarist, having contributed to recordings by artists such as Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Iggy Pop, and Run the Jewels.

One of Sweeney's most acclaimed projects is his ongoing collaboration with Will Oldham (aka Bonnie "Prince" Billy), particularly their albums Superwolf (2005) and Superwolves (2021), where Sweeney's intricate guitar arrangements intertwine with Oldham’s stark vocals and poetic lyrics.
