Grand Cadaver

Grand Cadaver is a Swedish death metal supergroup formed in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic by Alex Stjernfeldt and Daniel Liljekvist, who invited longtime friends Stefan Lagergren, Christian Jansson, and Mikael Stanne to join the project. The band’s sound is deeply rooted in the early Stockholm death metal scene, featuring the classic buzzsaw tone from the Boss HM-2 pedal combined with a mix of brutal, dynamic death metal and occasional doom and groove influences. Their debut album, *Into The Maw of Death* (2021), and follow-up *Deities of Deathlike Sleep* (2023), showcase raw, intense riffs and Stanne’s signature vocals, earning them accolades like the "Best Metal" at the 2022 Manifest awards.

Originally conceived as a lockdown side project, Grand Cadaver quickly evolved into a serious musical force. Their work captures themes of decay, mortality, and societal collapse, especially evident in their 2025 EP *The Rot Beneath*, described as “an anthem to mankind’s demise.” The band members are seasoned musicians from the Swedish metal scene (including Dark Tranquillity and Katatonia), which reflects in their coherent yet energetic songwriting and production. They continue to contribute to compilations supporting causes like suicide prevention, blending passion for the genre with meaningful engagement.
