Krishnamurti Sridhar is an Indian sarod virtuoso, born in Mumbai in 1948. He comes from a long line of musicians—14 generations—and has been initiated into both Carnatic and Hindustani music traditions from a young age. Sridhar's musical journey began under the guidance of his mother, who was part of the Tanjore tradition, and he later studied with Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, a renowned master of the rudra veena and Dhrupad Dhamar style. At 14, Sridhar joined Ravi Shankar's orchestral group, and at 25, he was honored with the title "Sur Mani" at the Kal-Ke-Kalakar festival in Bombay.
Sridhar's music is deeply rooted in the traditional while also offering a contemporary approach. His playing style is often described as unique and captivating, drawing parallels to artistic expression like painting on a canvas. Some of his notable works include "Nadanjali (Raga Malkauns)," "Shringar," and "Raga Kaushik Kanada". Through his music, Sridhar embodies the essence of Indian classical traditions, blending the expressive qualities of the sarod with a profound understanding of sound and emotion.
