Ekseption

Ekseption was a Dutch progressive rock ensemble that carved a unique niche for itself in the late 1960s through to the 1980s, by fusing classical music with rock and jazz elements. Founded by keyboardist and composer Rick van der Linden, the band's approach was distinguished by its ambitious adaptations of classical compositions, especially those of composers like Bach, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky, into a contemporary rock context. Ekseption's lineup underwent numerous changes through its existence, but van der Linden remained the creative core until his departure in the late 1970s.

Their self-titled debut album, "Ekseption," launched in 1969, set the tone for a series of innovative releases, including the ambitious "Beggar Julia's Time Trip" (1970), which showcased the band's storytelling skill through instrumental and vocal arrangements. The album '3' saw them further honing their signature sound. As the band evolved, so did their sound, even incorporating pop and disco influences in releases like "Ekseption'78." Despite disbanding in the 1980s, their music continued to be remembered and celebrated, leading to several remastered editions of their landmark works. The expanded and remastered editions of albums like "Trinity," "5," and "Ekseption 00.04" brought their intricate arrangements and innovative fusion of genres to new generations of listeners. Their powerful live performances are encapsulated in recordings like "Goodbye Germany '93 (live)," offering fans a chance to experience the dynamism of Ekseption's concerts.
